I am currently applying for membership of the JSF. I can be reached by XMPP on ben.turner(at)jabber.org or you can drop me an email at ben.turner(at)siemens.com.

About me

I'm a 27-year-old Brit currently living in Antwerp, Belgium. I have been working as a Java developer for about 5 years. I work for the Mobile Communications division of Siemens in Herentals. I work on the IMC project (Instant Messaging and Chat server), an OMA IMPS/Wireless Village compatible instant messaging and chat system for mobile phones.

XMPP

I got involved with XMPP a couple of years ago (basically I was looking for a good IM solution at work), and from there on the ball started rolling. Since then I have actively promoted XMPP inside the company. At the end of 2005, a decision was made to implement interworking between our IMC server and XMPP. We demo'd a preliminary version of this at the 3GSM trade fair in Barcelona, Spain in February 2006. Currently we are implementing a commercial version of the XMPP-IMPS gateway.

Intentions

  • To actively promote XMPP as a simple, elegant and powerful means of instant messaging and presence sharing
  • I think the JSF has a lot of untapped potential which, if leveraged properly, can be used to achieve a lot. XMPP has gained a lot of momentum over the past year and I believe it can achieve some great things :-)
