Lucas Nussbaum Application 2007
My name is Lucas Nussbaum and I'm applying to retain my XSF membership.
I've been involved in the XMPP/Jabber community for a few years now (JSF/XSF member since 2004), and in the Free Software community for a few more years.
A few years ago, I created the Apinc Jabber server, which is now by far the largest Jabber server for french-speaking users. After being part of the admin team for that server for two years, I decided to move to other things, so the server is now maintained by the other members of the team (including Grégoire Menuel, also a XSF member).
I started the work on XMPP4R, the XMPP/Jabber library for Ruby, a few years ago. Stephan Maka (XSF member) is now maintaining it, but I'm still closely following development and participating in it, even if we have had some interesting release management issues recently.
My main involvement nowadays is with Debian and Ubuntu, and I'd like to improve support for XMPP/Jabber in both of those distributions. For example, I'd like to help get OpenFire packaged for Debian (see here), which should make it easier to run one's own Jabber server.
