Hi, This is my application to serve on XMPP Council in the 2024/25 term.

Council Candidacy 2024

I was part of the Council in the previous three terms and would like to continue contributing to the review process within the Council and the development of XEPs in general.

In the previous term I had slipped into rejecting a ProtoXEP, even if I believe that they should be accepted as experimental as long as they fulfill basic requirements. While I still believe that the protocol proposed in said ProtoXEP is not suited for the XMPP stack, retrospectively, it would have been better to accept it. XEPs can be improved and still changed significantly after being accepted as experimental and if necessary can be rejected at a later stage. I believe that accepting a XEP as experimental and providing feedback to improve is much more encouraging to contributors than rejecting the ProtoXEP.
