About Me

  • My name is Tim aka edhelas
  • I live in Clelles, France
  • I'm a IT engineer, worked for a few years professionally as a web developer, now working at https://www.linphone.org/ with the SIP protocol.
  • I already took part in a couple of free software events in France, Germany, Netherlands and Switzerland (Journées du Logiciel Libre, FOSDEM, Rencontres Mondiales du Logiciel Libre…) as well as XMPP meetups (including the Summit that was held in Brussels in 2024).

What about XMPP ?

Well, I'm the founder of the Movim Project which principal aim is to build a full social network on top of the XMPP protocol. You can see the current state of the XMPP implementation in Movim.

Linked to this project I've also wrote a couple of other piece of code like AtomToPubsub which is a little tool that parse Atom nodes and push them to Pubsub ones written in Python, it can be used with FeedCleaner, a little PHP library that parse, clean and convert RSS nodes to Atom 1.

I'm still working with the ejabberd team to help them to track down and fix issues that I've encountered along the way in their project (especially around the Pubsub technologies).

I'm writing more and more about XMPP on my (XMPP Pubsub hosted!) personnal blog.

I'm hosting the movim.eu XMPP service that runs with ejabberd.

In 2019 and 2020 I've also worked on improving the WebRTC/Jingle support in Movim, to also bring compatibility with Conversations. In 2021 I implemented OMEMO within Movim, which is quite a challenge regarding the specific architecture of the project. In 2022 and I did even more work on Movim, releasing the 0.22 version of the project, you can see the full changelog there https://github.com/movim/movim/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md as well as on the project blog https://mov.im/node/pubsub.movim.eu/Movim In 2023 I've continued to work on Movim, modernizing the stack, implementing new XEPs and pushing the chat and social aspect further (see https://github.com/movim/movim/blob/master/CHANGELOG.md ) In 2024 I'm working on a complete refactoring of the video-conferencing feature in the project, one-to-one, then multi (with Muji), then with a SFU (working with the ejabberd team for that)

Why reapplying

To continue to help and give feedback within the XSF :) Working on new XEPs, improving some others, especially around social things (I'd really implement the Stories if I have some free time), but my focus will be on Jingle this year.
