Hello! I'm re-applying for XSF membership on an overcast October afternoon.

Background

I'm still based in Cambridge, UK; I work for Collabora, as I have done for a number of years; I still like functional programming a little more than is perhaps healthy for a C programmer.

XMPP-related projects

Over the past year I've kept on hacking on the Telepathy framework, including (but not limited to) the XMPP backend, Gabble, and the XMPP library it uses, Wocky. Of late, I've spent a lot of my time scoping projects rather than necessarily working on them (including Ytstenut, a minimally-documented set of XMPP and Telepathy extensions related to XPMN), and otherwise tinkering with bits and pieces here and there.

Why I'm reapplying

I'd like to continue to be involved in the standards process. I think it's important that we keep the scope of extensions narrow enough that they don't scare implementers off into inventing their own, simpler extensions; as an implementer with less time than he might like to spend on the angle-bracketed side of the fence, I have a personal interest in this. :)
