Michael Lundberg Application 2011
Introduction
My name is Michael Lundberg, and I am a Lead Associate at Booz Allen Hamilton. I have been working as a networking engineer for the last six and a half years. My initial focus was on network design, specifically routing and Quality of Service (QoS) for US Department of Defense (DoD) strategic and tactical networks. I am an active participant in the IETF and a co-author of ietf-l3vpn-ospfv3-pece. Over the last two years, I’ve been working with Unified Communication (UC) technologies and architecting future UC designs for the DoD. XMPP is a core component of these UC architectures as it is the DoD standard for federating between IM installations and exchanging presence.

Purpose for applying
I would like to become more involved in the XSF, in proposing and contributing to future XEPs. One of my initial interests is in describing requirements and a framework for a distributed multi-user chat (DMUC) capability. I am also interested in pursuing the development of XMPP extensions that will help with deployment of XMPP in wireless/disadvantaged environments, and extensions that will better enable standard presence translation between XMPP and SIMPLE.
