About me

My name is Matthias Wimmer, I am 30 years old and living in Germany. I am working for a mobile network operator in Germany where I am doing database programming for the network rollout.

Jabber/XMPP projects

Code

  • I am maintaining the jabberd14 codebase
  • maintaining jadc2s a client connection replacement for jabberd14 and other server implementations

Services

  • I am operating the amessage.* and xmpp.eu/jabber.eu Jabber server

Future plans

I want to continue my work on jabberd14. Now that I made it fully XMPP compatible in version 1.6.0 and solved the existing licence issues in 1.6.1, I am working on improving scalability and reducing resource requirements as well as implementing new features (offline file transfer, PubSub/PEP, DNSsec, improved conferencing, improved security).

Jabber history

  • I am involved with Jabber since 1999 when I searched an IM protocol, that I was able to tunnel through our university firewall using an ssh tunnel.
  • In 2000 I started to first implement IPv6 support in Gabber and afterwards in the jabberd server (either version 1.4.x and 2.x).
  • In 2001 I started to operate my own Jabber server which started as charente.de and is amessage.* now.
  • In 2006 I started to operate jabber.eu/xmpp.eu as my new 'lightweight' Jabber server.

Why I am reapplying

Because I want to continue supporting the Jabber community.
