In the Rotary world I have been a Rotary Youth Exchange student, and a Cultural Scholar sponsored by Rotary District 2090 in Perugia, Italy. As a Rotarian I was a member of the Rotary Club of Fair Oaks for over 15 years. I was elected to be the club president in Rotary year 2005-2006. I am Past Chair of the District Foundation Scholarship Committee. I am one of the original founders of the Interact Club at Bella Vista High School. I am also a past co-counselor for the Rotary Center for International Studies in Peace and Conflict Resolution at the University of California at Berkeley, and I am Past District 5180 Peace Scholar Chair. The International Fellowship of Digital Technology Rotarians is an organization that I founded to help put affordable Internet access in the hands of everybody. I am a member of the Rotary Foundation Bequest Society. And last but not least I am the founder of Digaria. A World Without Borders. www.Digaria.com

I am co-founder of the MetroNet6 network:

The MetroNet6 network project is sponsored by the North American IPv6 Task Force and being led by the NAv6TF sub-chapter California IPv6 Task Force to develop a Wireless MESH prototype network to support network communications within an Emergency Response Network Management framework and topology, supporting First Responders, and will collaborate with the NAv6TF Moonv6 project to support a wide-area-network to emulate Command Control Communications. The MetroNet6 network will utilize XMPP messaging technologies.

Professionally I am a Chief Internet Evangelist/Vice President with Coversant. Coversant is in the business of making communications and presence ubiquitous using XMPP technologies.

Jabber/XMPP Projects

Code

Not much help in this department, but I know quite a few people who are quite good in this department.

Jabber Documentation

With direction I could probably help here.

Plans for the future

I would like to see XMPP play an integral role in the transition of the world from a person-to-person Internet networked world to one where it is a machine-to-machine Internet networked world, and where the whole population of the globe has equal and affordable access to the Internet network.

Talks

As a forum leader with the global IPv6 Forum, vice chairman of the North American IPv6 Task Force, chairman of the California IPv6 Task Force, chairman of the International Fellowship of Digital Technology Rotarians, and co-founder of the MetroNet6 network project I have given dozens of talks over the years about various Internet technologies.

Jabber - Why I like it

Because it is supported by the IETF and based on open standards.

Why I am applying

To expand my personal knowledge and contacts within the XMPP community, and to help build an awareness of the benefits of XMPP through the various projects I am involved with around the globe.

“Geof is one of the most energetic advocates of Internet and especially IPv6 (the next version of the Internet Protocol) you will find anywhere. He is also a highly motivated Rotarian who has successfully tackled some extremely challenging opportunities requiring coordination among many Rotary clubs around the world. A persuasive and reliable advocate!” June 10, 2007

Vint Cerf, chief Internet Evangelist, Google

“I am quite impressed with what Geof has achieved during the short span as Chair of the California IPV6TF. He has worked very hard to bring up the group and have been smart enough to associate himself with the right individuals to build the California IPV6TF from almost nothing just a few years back. I am very proud to be part of the team!” July 2, 2007

Gopan Madathil, Founder & President, TechCoire managed Geof indirectly at California IPv6 Task Force

He promotes every client with great enthusiasm.” May 21, 2007

John Jason Brzozowski, Chair, MidAtlantic IPv6 Task Force was with another company when working with Geof at California IPv6 Task Force

“I had the pleasure of working with Geof as a chair of the California IPv6 Task Force in the context of the Metronet6 project. I am familiar with his work within the North America IPv6 Task Force and he was an invited speaker to the workshop "IPv6: Deploying the Future Infrastructure" I chaired. Geof's enthusiasm for the technology, for its potential is extraordinary. This quality along with an absolute commitment to the projects he supports and leads define his role as an evangelist within the IPv6 community in North America and worldwide. His contributions have been deservingly rewarded recently with a Pioneer award. Geof mixes very well the ability to see the larger, strategic picture with the attention to details. As such he can highlight the vision of a project such as Metronet6 and at the same time point out project details that others missed. An inquisitive and open mind enables Geof to bring to the community, business and engineering alike, new ideas and new perspectives on existing problems. His qualities are complemented by excellent public speaking skills which convey his passion.” May 21, 2007

Bill Cerveny, Internet Engineer, Internet2 was with another company when working with Geof at California IPv6 Task Force

“Geof maintains a perspective on new wave technology, he's careful to put his attention on only the things that are truly changing lives and the world. He's got a knack to see "what's next" and a long standing record of continuous, unbending focus on learning about what's going underneath on and why it is important. He's truly one of the few technologists who both has vision and explores technical issues down to the core, to understand how exactly they evolve. This talent has served him well and is a blessing to those of us who work with him!” May 20, 2007

“I had the pleasure of working with Geof while I was investigating new IP technologies and came into contact with IPV6. Thanks largely to the effort of Geof, IPV6 looked to me as a vibrant, friendly and very knowledgeable community. I highly recommend Geof as a man of vision and integrity, combined with limitless energy and friendly contact. Dr. John E. Forge” May 20, 2007

Geof has sinced dedicated considerable time and effort to the CAv6TF and helped promote and advocate for the MetroNet6 system (a first responder communications network). Yurie Rich, President, Native6 worked directly with Geof at California IPv6 Task Force

“Geof and I first met about a year ago, and I was immediately struck by his intellect, and obvious devotions to both science and the community. I've since seen him multitask like an acrobat, floating between IPv6, Coversant, Techcoire, and the Rotary. Seems like the kind of person you would want in the middle of solving grand problems. Plus, he knows Vint Cerf.” May 20, 2007

“Geof caught the IPv6 bug long before the rest of us. And singlehandedly he brought the notion of promoting IPv6 throughout California and from a base in Sacramento. At first, there were blank looks on everyone's faces, but Geof continued unabated spreading the advantages, how the rest of the world was way ahead of us, etc. etc. He brought great speakers to Sacramento, including Vince Cerf. He got the attention of the CTO of California. Geof was a one man evangelist. Now the rest of us know how important this technology advance is and how we better get our arms around it if we want to stay competitive in the world of technology. Congrats Geof for recently receiving the distinguished IPv6 Forum Internet Pioneer Award.” May 20, 2007
