About Me

Since 1999 I've mostly been focused on documenting the protocols that we use in the Jabber/XMPP community. I've authored the core RFCs and many XMPP Extension Protocols (XEPs). Since 2002 I've also served as Executive Director of the XMPP Software Foundation.

Goals for the Next Year

Here are some of the XMPP-related tasks I'd like to accomplish in the next 12 months:

  • Complete work on the XMPP address format at the IETF (draft-ietf-xmpp-6122bis)
  • Clean up the publish-subscribe specifications (XEP-0060, XEP-0163, XEP-0248)
  • Advance the server dialback specification (XEP-0220) to Draft
  • Advance the Jingle file transfer specificaiton (XEP-0243) to Draft

One of my main areas of focus is improving the reliability and security of the XMPP network itself. Toward that end I also plan to make significant progress on topics like incident reporting (XEP-0268), entity reputation (XEP-0275), server buddies (XEP-0267), and service directories (XEP-0309). This will involve both spec updates and code that can run at xmpp.net.
