Volunteers from the Jabber/XMPP community run many free IM services on the network. One of the biggest services has been hosted at the jabber.org domain since 1999. Here are some details about the service:

If you have lost your password for the jabber.org IM service, please contact Peter Saint-Andre (contact info here) and provide the following information (if you send email, please make the message subject "jabber.org information retrieval"):

1. Your jabber.org account name (e.g., "maineboy@jabber.org")

2. The usernames of at least two people in your contact list (e.g., "romeo@example.net" and "juliet@example.com")

3. The approximate date when you last logged in to this account (note: we delete accounts after 12 months of inactivity!)

If your information matches, we will change your password and send you the new one. You can than modify the password using your Jabber client.

Note: We can look up passwords only on the jabber.org IM service!
