Bio

I'm 25,living in Hungary, taking my final studies on MSc of Enterprise Architect / Information Engineer. Using open source technologies since 1998, I was submitting patches and/or being active otherwise in various - although mostly hungarian - projects. I was creating webpages as a living since I was 16 (to cover my studies), in time, I was in the CMS and then in the web 2.0 scene with a small group of talented people behind me (who were taught by me mostly).

Besides my studies and work, I was a leaderboard member of Károly Simonyi College for Advanced Studies, and a researcher of Media Education and Research Center, Budapest , and for a short period of time, the Kitchen Budapest medialab (latter two are affiliates of Hungarian Telekom, subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom). I studied communities, social aspects of networked services, including presence.

What I was doing in 2008

I was a development consultant, working for the second largest internet interest group in Hungary, counting millions of visitors daily. My work includesd preparing the next generation of our messaging system, which, of course, is built on Jabber.

Result: check out http://indafon.com

Not all of my advices were used, though... and it still isn't included in their webmail, nor there's oembed-like integration :S

What I'm doing now

I'm a senior developer at EPAM Systems. Officially hired because my experience in XMPP, they realized that my architectural and javascript / web knowledge could be more useful currently, with the scheduled beginning of the XMPP subproject moving further and further. Yet, hey, I'm still there because I'm an XMPP expert for them, who can be get out from the wardrobe if some IM-related project is on the horizon...

Projects in 2008

I'm writing the JabberMania blog, which focuses on jabber technology.

Result: since the last conf, I wrote an OEmbed post only, but it could be still used somewhere (see, such technology recently got included in GMail

I'm nearly done with my XEP proposal and demo code for handling MSN-like custom smileys in XMPP

Result: XEP-0231 basically supersedes it. I plan to rewrite my code to support XEP-0231. I really do hope my protocol draft was influental on XEP-0231, although not sure...

I've done a publication of jabber on the largest news portal in Hungary, and I've done several appereances on conferences and meetings (my next one will be on 16th january, on Free Software Nights) advocating jabber.

I'm a freelance consultant for jabber-based technologies. This includes one large-scale technology too. Result: I'm still employed as a jabber expert, and some people got knowledge on jabber technologies...

Our Google Maps mashup service offers also jabber functionality (with unified authentication), although not on web.

Also, I'm a volunteer of the jabber.org webteam. Result: Well, I believe the original webteam movement failed to reach its goal, and that failure, I admit, can be at least partially my responsibiliy :( Yet together with MRay we tried to do something with it.

Plans for 2009, things I've done since my last application

What wasn't in my original application: I started to do a JS API incentive with a few of you, started a mailing list, and there's some still unpublished running code at my server. Since I'm working on Opensocial now, which is a similiar technology, from which I hope I learn enough to make that code release complete.

Also, I did an OEmbed proxy/provider, which could be used by javascript XMPP clients too.

As for the XMPP Client I wrote: there are other Ext+BOSH clients out there since then, I plan to become involved in one of them. I plan to add the OEmbed, the JSAPI and an Adium theming capability in one of the web clients, and trying to make it component-based, to be reusable.

I try to write a custom smiley component compatible with MSN :)

I helped to develop a chat client for brijj.com (although, just the first steps :)

Why I would like to apply

Sometimes it just causes problems that I can't be bound anywhere :) Like when they ask me on a conference: "On behalf of which organization are you speaking of jabber?"

For a lot of people, I represent jabber in Hungary, since they see me speaking and writing about it.

I think therefore it would be desirable if I would be a member of XSF officially :)

So, I'm asking my membership to be a possible connection point for the Jabber community in hungary as a jabber advocate, official member of the foundation.

Contact

Let's try aadaam at google's public chat service (both mail & IM), or at jo-hely.hu (just IM)

(Don't ask, on which IM protocol ;)
