My name is Johannes Wagener and I'm reapplying to retain my JSF membership.

History

I am a MD living in Munich, Germany, and I am member of the XSF since October 2002. In the past years I was maintainer of several XMPP related projects (see Contributions).

My current XMPP programming activities are focused on developing XMPP Web Services for Java (xws4j). Xws4j is a Java library to develop XMPP services and clients based on XEP-0244 IO Data. With this library it is possible to perform synchronous and asynchronous remote procedure calls via XMPP.

Beside this I am contributing to the Bioclipse project, a complex Eclipse RCP that is aimed at creating a Java-based, open source, visual platform for chemo- and bioinformatics. Since a few month Bioclipse features an xws4j plugin, which makes Bioclipse a powerful client for XEP-0244 IO Data-based XMPP services.

Why I'm reapplying

I still continue my work on XMPP code and extensions (XEPs), thus I think it is important to stay in touch with the XSF. We are optimistic that XMPP becoms the backbone of future cloud computing infrastructures (see here and here) and this is main focus of my XMPP related work. Beside this I always liked programming with/for Jabber (see below) and - very important! - I met many friendly people in the XSF.

XMPP specific code

  • I've written XMPP Client Daemon, a stand-alone application that is installed on a computer to make XMPP (Jabber) services available to system. Other applications designed for the XCD API can connect to the XCD and share their XMPP sessions between each other.
  • Another project is the wxSkabber client (sadly, the webpage of this client is gone as my sponsor canceled support). There are still some screenshots available online.
  • If you are interested in the current Bioclipse/XMPP project I would be happy to get in contact with you. Just send me a message at my known JID.

More code...

I have still a wxWidgets compatible XMPP library here on HD. If someone is interested please message me. I will use Java in future as my current projects are in this language.

Jabber documentation

I wrote some pages of the Jabber Programmer's Guide.
