History

I am a developer with an MS in Computer Science. I've had the pleasure of writing software under several domains over the years, including network management, ad-hoc wireless networking, and most recently, first responder situation awareness.

XMPP Projects

At my current position as Lead Software Engineer at Drakontas LLC, I have spent a lot of time writing XMPP client and server software during the last two years.

I've used and am very familiar with Strophe JS, Idavoll/Wokkel, Smack. I also implemented a J2ME client from scratch.

Although I haven't publicly done so yet, I plan on contributing my additions and enhancements to these libraries back to the community in the near future.

XMPP - Why I like it

It's great to see that an open messaging protocol can overcome and in many respects surpass (PubSub, BOSH, etc.) entrenched proprietary messaging systems. However, XMPP has much more potential than just being an IM protocol. I see, and indeed use, XMPP as a more generic messaging protocol that is tremendously powerful.

Why I'm applying

Having greatly benefited from XMPP both as a technology and as a community, I would like to give back. I want to do this by contributing code to the XMPP open source community as well as by getting involved with the XSF, especially after having attended the last XMPP Summit.
