About Me
I am an almost 32 year old (amusingly enough, 32 years old as of the last call date for applications!) systems programmer at NC State University. In my spare time, I have built a number of open source XMPP based projects and tried to be involved with XMPP as a whole as it grows. I've submitted one XEP to date with a couple more "in my file waiting to be written up". XMPP impressed me from the moment I first encountered it and I hope to see it continue to flourish!
Current Projects
My current related projects and roles in them are:
- JWGC (Jabber WindowGram Client) - Lead Developer, project has been fairly stale for a while though
- PyAIMt (Python AIM Transport) - Lead Developer, though I am primarily a figurehead at this point, looking for an heir or two or ten
- PyICQt ( Python ICQ Transport) - Lead Developer, same thing, looking for heirs
- IM Gateway plugin for Openfire - Lead Developer, my 'favorite child' so to speak and what I spend most of my efforts on nowadays, along with a number of it's dependent libraries
Why I'm Reapplying
I hope to continue to come up with inventive and useful ways to improve upon XMPP as a whole. One of the goals of me working on the plugin for Openfire when I first started was to take things I learned by working with internals of an XMPP server and determine ways to turn that knowledge into an XEP for others to benefit from. I have a number of those on the backburner right now sitting in a "just not written into a formal XEP" state. I also believe strongly in not forcing anyone to use XMPP, but rather making XMPP "just so darn cool" that folk use it of their own accord! ;)
Side Note
Seriously, if you have interest in Python and would be interested in furthering development on PyAIMt and/or PyICQt, please drop me a line at my listed JID or email address. If you are strongly interested in the concept and learning Python but don't consider yourself a guru with it, don't fret! I knew nothing of Python before I started these two projects! I believe they are good projects, I simply do not have time for them anymore.
