Anders Conbere Application 2009

Background
A lot has changed in one year. Last year was my first year applying to the XMPP foundation for membership. At the time I'd been working on some rather ambitious projects involving re-use of the xmpp roster as a foundation for portable friend lists. This year I found myself in the position of consulting on several projects, many times about BOSH, lots of times working at the stanza level.
Though in the last couple of months my focus has been more on AMQP than XMPP, I think the XMPP foundation could benefit from voices familiar with other Queing protocols with respect to it's own pubsub implementations.
XMPP Projects
I'd say this years project was building connections. I know a lot of the members both internally and externally of the xmpp community, and I've spent a year helping foster those connections and share them between members.
Future Goals
I'd like to see the pubsub tools available reach a level of usability that the similar tools for AMQP have. I'd like to see more BOSH applications out there. I'd like to see more ideas on how to allow 3rd party access to protected data in XMPP servers, and look at how those services can use the tools of presence and identity to provider more compelling applications.
Why I'm here
I think I came in last year with a lot of lofty goals, beyond the scope of what really needs to be covered in the XMPP spec. I've seen myself become more jaded as to the possibilities here, but also more focused with that realism. I'd like to expand my engagement with the other XMPP members, and in particular I'd like to continue to look at ways that pubsub can be better utilized.
